10 days and counting Reviewer: unknown 07-02-2004 Hello Everyone,
I have been on Ms. Sommer's plan ( Actually Ms. Diana Schwarzbein Ph.D's
plan) for 10 days now, and I have lost
12 pounds already. I know, it's mostly water at this stage, but it is great
motivation! I can't even tell you how thrilled I am!
Atkins is not for me, as I do love fruit and vegetables and on this
plan you may have fruits on an empty stomach and complex carbs like veggies
several times daily. I don't overdo them, but I do get the fiber I need without
resorting to supplements. This is a great plan for anyone who is insulin
resistant. My doctor said if I keep going I will be able to stop my diabetes
medication as my blood sugars have been excellent! |
Finally, after 30 yrs Reviewer: Rosie 07-02-2004 Finally, After 30 Years...
I found how to regain and maintain my health. This book provides much more
than a diet plan. She wrote a healthy life plan in an easy to understand and
apply format. Her plan does not create feelings of deprivation or hunger, as you can
eat anything. Calories don't count. She defines which foods will not cause the
insulin production that creates fat, and when it is acceptable to eat high
insulin producing food. The reading of this book made me aware of the cause of
health problems. |
I have tried this diet & Atkins... Reviewer: unknown 06-22-2004 The plans are pretty different.
In a nutshell, Atkins is a plan with very low carbohydrate content.
Thus, one eats primarily protein (meat, poultry, fish, eggs, some
dairy depending on the carbo content) plus some low
carbohydrate-content veggies.
Sommers plan is based on the idea of so-called food combining. Her
idea is that it is not good to eat primarily protein foods in the same
meal with primarily starchy foods. There is a chart about which foods
can be eaten together and how many hours you need to leave between
each type of meal. Sommers allows for more variety in the food you
eat.

SS Diet Review Reviewer: Hannah 06-09-2004 I tried Somersizing
years ago, when her first book came out, but I found it difficult to
stay on. Restrictive, in terms of so many hours between eating fruit
and anything else, so many hours between a carb meal and a protein
meal. Also, it did not tame my carb cravings like a true low-carb diet
does. I didn't learn about that until my daughter introduced me to The
Zone.
Nowdays, I do eat a little fruit, and have some relatively high-carb
starchy vegetables now and again, without triggering the massive
cravings. But I could not do that on a regular basis, a la
Somersizing, or I'd find myself eating everything in sight within a
week. Perhaps it depends on your degree of hyperinsulimia, whether
Somers' plan will be successful for you or not. |
