Description: A typical Raw Foods Diet advocates eating at least 75 percent of your food raw, although there are strict versions which insist on no cooking and a 100 percent vegetarian dietary regimen. Where cooking is allowed it is usually to permit the addition of some cooked whole grains and pulses, plus good quality fish and lean poultry.

The BARF diet Reviewer: Charlie 04-01-2004 I have been told that theories behind the BARF (Bones and Raw Foods) diet is
that essentially it is what your dog would be eating in the wild, but
helping weed out potentially poisonous meats, etc. Harking back to their
ancestral days, when there were no preservatives or chemicals in the animals
which the dog would catch on his own and of course eat raw. There are dog
owners who report that their dogs *thrive* on the BARF diet. If you get to a
point where you are really reading up on commercial dog foods and deciding
to make a change in your dog's diet, you will be shocked at the types of
foods that go into your typical commercial kibble. All sorts of animal and
grain byproducts (we're talking hair, feathers, teeth, the grossest bits of
meat and bone as well as the grain parts which are indigestible and low in
nutrition), chemicals, non-digestible items, foods which are allergens,
things that are carcinogens, etc. etc....it may be enough to scare you into
a raw-foods diet; as it may be the only way that you *truly* know what your
dog is eating.

Raw Foods Healthier?? Reviewer: Sharon 04-01-2004 Raw foods proponents argue a diet of uncooked vegetables, fruits and nuts
reflects a natural way of eating. Fire changes the molecular structure of
food. Heating food above 118 degrees will kill the enzymes in it,
diminishing its nutritional value, the theory holds. Pointing to nature and
how no animal cooks its food, the theory continues that raw food is more
alive than its cooked counterpart and therefore better for us. |
I heard about this diet on Oprah Reviewer: Habib 03-13-2004 Personally, I would be very skeptical of anything Oprah recommends. If she's so healthy and spiritual and all, why is
she still such a fat cow? She doesn't seem all that healthy,
mentally or physically, to me. |
Raw Food Reviewer: Carmen 03-01-2004 I am not opposed to the Raw Food idea but i do think if you are gonna be on it you should really watch your protein, carb, and fat intake. |
