Get the Protein Power paperback. Reviewer: Jenny 04-01-2004 Get the Protein Power paperback. The small version is about $6 bucks and
worth every penny.
The short answer is that the protein power approach gives you more
information so you can craft a low carb food plan that works for you and
includes the foods you like rather than relying on a set of rules that are
based on "Atkins says." The carb level starts out slightly higher.
But the real advantage is that the mechanism of what makes the diet work is
spelled out for you so you are empowered by understanding what you are
doing.
I started out with Protein Power and what I eat now is pretty close to their
suggestions--except that I've found that I do much, much better if I don't
eat quite as much protein as their formula suggests.

Protein Power diet helped me lose 20 pounds Reviewer: Doug 04-01-2004 I lost 20 pounds on this diet 4 months ago and have kept the weight off. |
problems? Reviewer: Skuter 04-01-2004 the biggest problem with Atkins,Zone and Protein Power is the
gradual liver glycogen depletion that occurs over time. This stored liver
carbohydrate is essential for the liver to convert the inactive T4 throxin to
the active T3 throxin which is responsible for keeping up the speed of your
metabolism. This occurs after several months and is acompanied by a decrease
strenght and immune function. This is the problem that I have solved and
incorporated into The Power Diet. The principles that form the bases for these
diets are valid but they don,t finisn the job of creating the degree of health
and fitness that they promise. |
I lost 50 pounds Reviewer: Johnny 04-01-2004 I lost 50 pounds in 4 months. I am still on this diet and hopefully i can reach my goal and lose 25 more pounds. |
PPD review Reviewer: Ilana 04-01-2004 I am a type two diabetic and have the Protein Power Lifeplan book. I
need to lose 15 pounds and felt that low carbing was the way to go. I
know that most people are on Atkins but I just don't like that program. It is too constricting to me. |
Great Book Reviewer: Lucy 03-24-2004 Read the book, you will lear alot about this diet. It works. I was on it for awhile and lost 30 pounds. |
Lost 42 lbs Reviewer: Jim 03-21-2004 I lost 42 pounds on Protein Power. Trust me, it wasn't just water
loss.
With PP and a modest exercise program, I lost fat and gained lean body
mass. Some people will tell you that all weight-loss diets will
result in a loss of lean body mass. Not true.
Yes, PP allows a little more carbohydrate to start than Atkins. IMO,
that's a good thing; it allows a wider variety of fruits and
vegetables. That means more fiber, more vitamins (especially C) and
co-factors. |
My review Reviewer: Tony 03-20-2004 The "Protein power" book does have a much clearer scientific explanation
than Atkins, and I took my original low-carb inspiration from that book.
However, I found atkins easier to do initially because the induction phase
is so easy to follow at first and helps eliminate your cravings. Then you
build your long-term diet from that foundation. I think whatever approach
you find more practical to apply is the best one for you. The two plans are
very similar. I would recommend you get the original "Protein Power" and
not just go by their more recent lifeplan book, as I've read them both and I
think "Protein Power" is much more complete in describing the diet. |
Protein Power & Atkins Diet Reviewer: Sid 03-19-2004 The two plans are very similar. Protein Power has an additional focus on
getting enough protein. It is a book worth reading even if you are doing
Atkins (just as DANDR is worth reading if you are doing PP). DANDR is more
inspirational. PP has more detail on the science behind low carb. Atkins
may be for more tougher cases because it starts off more strict. |
Protein Power is similiar to Atkins Reviewer: Spud 03-11-2004 In general they are extremely similar. If you're on one chances are there
will not be much change if you switch to the other. |
