Description: This diet is only designed for obese individuals under medical supervision. Under these conditions, it typically produces significant short-term weight loss amounting to 3 to 5 pounds per week, or about 44 pounds over 12 weeks. This can improve obesity-related conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. If combined with behavioral therapy and exercise, such a diet may also retard weight regain.
Any diet with an intake of about 800 calories per day is a very low calorie diet. Such a diet should only be followed for a relatively short term (3-6 months) and only under medical supervision. Medical supervision is essential for several reasons: (a) To ensure only suitable candidates follow the diet; (b) To ensure adequate nutrition; (c) To monitor progress.

almost to my goal Reviewer: Dave 07-07-2004 I only had 16 pounds to lose. I've lost 10 and have 6 more to go. I eat a low calorie level and I watch what I eat. I keep my calorie level a little below maintenance level. Some days I almost
fast. But only some. I allow myself occasional tastes of things like cream cheese but only in
trace amounts. Just enough to tease the palette. I have to really want each
week to be a weight loss week for this to be supportable.
And I do. |
Quick Results Reviewer: Robin 07-03-2004 You will see the effects right away. A couple days after starting your diet,
you will start loosing weight, and while this is a lot of water, you will
notice certain things. You will need to drink more water, because this helps
to flush out the fat and helps you to get rid of the fat faster. Another good idea is to get a small pocket sized booklet that has foods with
calorie amounts listed so that you can see that eating more fruits and
vegetables are lower in calories than breads, pasta, etc. You can eat these,
too, I just get the "light" breads. Corn flakes, Special K, Rice Krispies,
oatmeal, Bran Flakes...these are all good choices for breakfast. I may have an
egg twice a week with a slice of toast.
Milk calories vary as well, so go with a milkfat low enough that you like it.
I used to drink 2% and now am drinking 1/2% and its taking some getting used
to.
For lunch, I usually eat a tunafish sandwich, egg salad, ham sandwich.
Salad....taco, chef, tossed. and a piece of fruit.
For dinner, simple chicken, fish, or sm. steak, with a simple baked potato,
mashed potato, vegetable or salad, and fruit. I have a family of 5 to feed and
we always sit down for dinner.
Take a walk through your grocery and notice the differences in (for example)
sour cream.....regular, light, and nofat....its interesting to see the
differences. the same with margerine.....regular, light, and no fat.
Reading labels will become your mantra...:)
For snacks....popcorn (Reddenbacker has a "heart smart" brand out now) and rice
cakes (many different flavors), carrot and celery sticks are great to have
onhand.

Not a good idea. This diet is only short term Reviewer: Arianna 07-01-2004 Not a good idea. This diet is only short term. You may lose some weight and lose it quickly but this is not a diet you will stay on forever. I only lasted about a month and gave up because I just couldn't eat that way. I lost 13 lbs and put it all back on in 2 months time. |
Low Calorie or NO Calorie... Reviewer: Donna 06-27-2004 Any diet that limits your calorie intake to a low amount is dangerous to your health. I recommend another diet. Eat healthier. Being healthy is more important than being thin. |
Not Recommended Reviewer: Monica 06-01-2004 I tried a low calroie diet a few months ago and found it to be very unhealthy. You need calories! You need to eat certain foods and you need to eat until you are full. Unless you are very obese, I recommend just eating smarter and exercising more often. You would be surprised how much a good sweaty workout would do a couple days a week |
